REALTOR® Foundation: RI Awards 3rd Quarter Grants

Warwick, RI – September 24, 2021 – The REALTOR® Foundation: RI has announced the recipients of the Foundation’s third-quarter grants. Five thousand dollars was disbursed, split evenly between Sojourner House, an organization committed to ending domestic and sexual abuse, and Neighbors Helping Neighbors Rhode Island (NHNRI) which provides home repairs at no cost to low-income qualifying homeowners in South County, R.I.

Sojourner House will use the funds to support their Trafficking Housing Empowerment Immigration Advocacy Project, better known as the THEIA Project. The THEIA Project is the state’s only shelter and supportive housing program for victims of human trafficking. Since its inception in 2016, the THEIA Project has served over 100 victims.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors Rhode Island (NHNRI) will use the grant to help fund various projects that have been on hold due to a lack of funding, one of which includes the replacement of a roof and exhaust pipe for a Richmond resident whose mobile home is leaking in several places into the home.

Like many other nonprofits across the state, NHNRI has been struggling to manage the increased need resulting from the pandemic.

“Simply put, we can only continue repairing homes on our waitlist as funds become available. Our budget was severely impacted by COVID in that more people needed our support, and fundraising events and efforts were canceled. Some of our individual donors could not afford to support us as well,” said Susan Jaquith, President of NHNRI.

“To us, each project on our spreadsheet represents human faces, and each home repair also represents repaired lives. Thank you, Realtor Foundation: RI for partnering with us to serve our community,” said Jaquith.

The REALTOR® Foundation: RI provides grants each quarter to non-profit entities who share its mission to support the enhancement of quality of life and to assist individuals or entities affected by a personal or natural disaster.
